Former Cuban League player Emilio Cabrera, who according to Who’s Who in Cuban Baseball, 1878-1961, was born in Havana on this day (May 22) in 1921.

This photo appears on the Los Cubanitos Facebook page, dedicated to the youth baseball team of Cuban exiles he founded in Miami in 1965.

Writing a blog can lead to writing a book

Thanks, at least in part, to my posts at Cuba Beisbol the past few years, I recently signed a contract to write a book about Cuban baseball history with University Press of Florida.

The book will focus on the Cuban League in the mid-to-late 1940s and Jackie Robinson’s spring training in Havana in 1947.

Very exciting. Eight chapters written so far. More information to come in the months that follow as this project comes closer to realization.
